Flower of the day

These flowers are in bloom all over our neighbourhood.  I don’t know what flower this is, probably some variant of the Magnolia family (Champanki/champaka), given its heady fragrance.

If you know what tree this is, let me know.

They remind me of a shrub called sweetbox, which grows mostly in the southeastern US on our continent. Per their name, they have a sweet, heady scent. Do the flowers turn into round black berries later?

It’s orange blossom time in CA. When I come home I am greeted by the scent of orange blossoms from the tree growing next to the gate. Normally I curse this tree because the branches hit my head as I come in; my landlady had it trimmed back, however, so there is only the lovely scent.

Yes, there are round black berries at the end. So, it must be sweatbox, the name sounds just apt for the fragrance.
      Orange blossoms – such a spring-y scent, isn’t it?
